How it works

Satellite detection

Sentinel-1 GRD scenes are calibrated and processed to identify targets whose radar backscatter, geometry, and polarisation characteristics are consistent with vessels. A statistical detection stage adapts to local sea-clutter conditions.

Physics-informed analysis

Observed backscatter is compared against what the ocean surface should produce given prevailing atmospheric conditions. This separates genuine vessel returns from environmental clutter, maintaining detection confidence across varying sea states.

Supply-chain graph

Detection counts feed a graph-native commodity model — nodes are physical facilities, edges encode commodity flows and annual volume. Chokepoint congestion propagates through the graph to produce exposure views across global supply chains.

Seahound's processing pipeline incorporates proprietary machine learning algorithms developed for maritime SAR intelligence.
